Spider-Man Musical Delays Broadway Opening Night to March 15

Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark has announced that it will delay its opening night, previously scheduled for February 7, until March 15. This is the latest in a series of delays for the show, which was first expected to arrive on Broadway in February of 2010. The opening was then rescheduled until December 21, 2010 then again delayed to January 11. This change will “allow for more time to fine-tune aspects of the show, including the new ending,” according to a statement from the show’s producers. In addition, the show’s January 18 and 25 performances have been cancelled.

“Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark is ten-times more complicated to tech than anything else, and the preview schedule allows for only very limited rehearsal time (twelve hours per week),” said lead producer Michael Cohl in a statement. “We simply need more time to fully execute the creative team’s vision before freezing the show. I picked a date in March that allows me to ensure that this will be the final postponement.”

Spider-Man, Turn off the Dark features a book by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger. Reeve Carney stars as the title webslinger alongside Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane Watson and Patrick Page as Norman Oswald/The Green Goblin.
